The idea of “The
Cookie Lady” all began in my home. I have always loved to
feed people. My kitchen is my favorite room in my house. I was a
homemaker who began taking some of my “junk” to local
flea markets. I enjoyed meeting and talking with all of the interesting
people. However, I kept noticing that no one had anything to eat.
So I decided to start taking a couple dozen chocolate chip cookies
each time I went. The cookies were always the first items to go.
I decided to start taking only cookies to the markets. I acquired
a home bakers license and started to bake a lot of cookies. Everything
went very well. People started to ask me why I hadn’t opened
a cookie shop.
I had never thought of that.
I started looking for a building that could fit my needs. I found
a small building for rent and decided to go for it. With the help
of my Mom, Dad, and son, we got the building ready to become a cookie
shop. The only thing left was to come up with a name. I wanted something
to draw the attention of potential customers. Everyone from the
flea markets knew me as “the cookie lady” and the name
stuck.
Finally, in June of 1989, The Cookie Lady’s first store opened
in Fremont, Ohio. Since that small beginning, a lot of exciting
things have happened at The Cookie Lady. After graduating from college,
my son, Tom, came back to Fremont to help me run the business. We
have expanded to include another shop in Maumee, Ohio. We love it.
There is probably nothing we would rather be doing. We love offering
people a wonderful treat like good cookies. We, at The Cookie Lady,
hope that every order you send or receive from us will bring a smile
to your face. Enjoy.
Thank you,
Sharon Wammes
